New Ruling A Concern For All Drivers

Van and car drivers should revise their use of mobile phones in light of recent court case ruling.  The driver in question wasn’t even making a call!  A police officer saw the driver merely switching off an alarm whilst driving and this invoked the arrest.

In conclusion, the judge ruled that “it didn’t matter what the driver was doing, because any use of the phone (such as switching off an alarm) amounted to ‘using a hand-held phone’” (Fleetnews).

Whilst the ruling doesn’t apply automatically to every charge, the ruling should instill a sense of caution to all drivers.  Vansdirect suggests that this ruling could apply to plugging the phone into a car charger, turning the phone off and even connecting it to the in-car phone system.  Remember to dock your phone in a cradle before any journey so that hands-free operation is achievable.  Better still, switch the phone off and ignore all calls (you didn’t want to take them anyway remember!).
