The Bluebirds, sponsored by Vansdirect, twice conceded the lead to title contenders Reading last night at Ninian Park.  The point secures 6th in the table for another few days, but the Bluebirds will be ruing their chance to have elevated themselves above Plymouth who lurk in 7th.

On-loan Wayne Routledge opened the scoring after linking up again with other loan signing Michael Chopra.  The pair, from Aston Villa and Sunderland respectively, have had an immediate impact on the Cardiff team - so much so that Dave Jones’ team sheet included both premiership stars alongside returning strike duo Ross McCormack and Jay Bothroyd.

The lead was short lived when Kevin Doyle, a rumoured target of several premiership clubs, drilled in from short range.

Reading’s Andre Bikey was then shown red on 30 minutes after an aeriel challenge with Chopra.  This changed the tempo and style of the game.  Indeed, on 41 Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann fouled Chopra to allow top scorer Ross McCormack to slot in the resultant penalty.

Again, the lead was short-lived with 10-man Reading rescuing a point on 50 minutes with a half-volley strike from Brynjar Gunnarsson.

Jones told the BBC after the game ”We should have seen out the half-time with a clean sheet and maybe come in a couple of goals ahead.”
