2 Million Ducatos 2nd December, 2008

Production of Fiat’s Ducato Passes 2 Million

Fiat Professional

Fiat Professional

One of Vansdirect’s favourite vans reached an impressive milestone last month.  In the otherwise quiet Sevel, Italy, the 2 millionth Ducato rolled off the Fiat production line with little fanfare.  But “why?” Vansdirect asks.  Why didn’t anyone give praise to this remarkable achievement?

The Ducato offers a cheap but uncompromising alternative to the traditionally popular Ford Transit and the expensive Mercedes Sprinter.  It’s humble beginnings date back to 1981 with its popularity and success growing year-on-year.  Indeed, Vansdirect sells so many Ducatos, we some times have to remind ourselves that it’s not a Ford or Merc!

The Fame Game 14th November, 2008

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the most famous of them all?

Dr Who. No, the Tardis isnt a van, but the van is!

Dr Who. No, the Tardis isn't a van, but the van is!

It’s Friday again!  This means time for a bit more fun in the Vansdirect newsroom.  We’ve already brought you famous vans from stage, screen and football - but this got the Top Trump players amongst us asking…. what is the most famous van out there?  Which has the housewife (or husband) seen more of than any other?  Is there an automatic choice when making a movie or tv show?  It doesn’t really matter, but at least you’ll be able to cite the answer when you’re next at the pub.

We are family! I got all my sisters with me!

We are family! I got all my sisters with me!

Bipper, Nemo and Fiorino are not Disney’s take on the ugly sisters but instead Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat’s joint venture van - they’re the same small van but rebadged by each manufacturer.  A jury of international journalists congruating at the International Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover, have this week named the van - the “International Van of the Year”.

The Language Of Vans 19th September, 2008

Vansdirect Crash Course In Languages

Poo Eine Vansdirect?!

Poo Eine Vansdirect?!

It’s safe to say that most of us are ignorant of other languages.  We know they exist and we try to speak them when desperate for the toilet or looking for the train station, but few of us embrace them.  Well, at Vansdirect, we dare to be different.  We’re not all about cheap vans and the best van deals this side of the English Channel.  Oh no, Vansdirect is a company keen to learn.

On the Road to Hell? 16th September, 2008

Roads Named & Shamed

A recent survey carried out by Lex has identified the most boring road in Britain.  The survey, which captured data from company car drivers, named the M1″the most boring road in Britain” with a 1/3 of the votes! Boredom apparently the cause of heavy traffic, the length of road and the frequency we use the road.

Boring?

Boring?

The results also suggest avoiding the M4, M5, M6, M40, A1, A38 and A14, for a more interesting journey. Apparently 42% of the company car drivers polled said that they “lose their concentration when driving on boring roads” and admit driving faster.  Perhaps this is further evidence that the van driver is safer - as brought to you by Vansdirect last week (to see article click here).

Vans hit credit with crunch? 11th September, 2008

Van Registrations Fall

Transport News Network report this week on data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.  These statistics apparently show “van and truck registrations down 20.7% in August” but, as also reported by Works Management, registrations are up 1.9% for the rolling year to a staggering 387,645.

The decline in van registrations accounted for much of the slump with van registrations being “down 24.7% for the month and down 0.8% to 329,092 for the rolling year”.
