£20 Penalty For Those Who Idle

£20 Penalty For Those Who Idle

The next time you’re driving your van in West Sussex, be sure not to idle for too long.  Accoriding to the Times last week, West Sussex County Council will target motorists who unnecessarily leave their engines idling. Those idling in traffic jams, whilst parked and waiting at level crossings could face on-the-spot fines in a bid to combat exhaust emissions.

The pilot scheme is likely to start in January with everyones’ favourite traffic warden dishing out the fines. Penalty’s are not likely to exceed £20, but this could prove another unpopular decision with van drivers and other motorists.

In doing so, Ford are likely to reduce the 1100 strong workforce, which currently works on the Ford Transit range of vans.  The current model of transit is expected to cease production in Southampton altogether in 2011 with Ford moving the operation to Turkey where the new model of Transit will evolve.

Its Time to Fill Up!

It's Time to Fill Up!

Most of the major fuel stations in Britain cut prices today in response to the fall in oil prices.  Van drivers can now expect to pay an average of 107.7p per litre of unleaded and 119.2p for diesel.  However, those of you with a good memory, or those who read the Times today, will note that this time last year, we only paid 95.22p per litre of petrol!
