VW To Pick Up New Customers
Volkswagen Present Pick-Up Concept

VW Concept Pickup
Vansdirect sell a lot of pickups! Year-on-year the demand for these commercial vehicles has grown. These vans provide the luxury of an executive saloon but the pulling power and load carrying capability of a regular van. The Nissan Navara, Toyata Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and the Ford Ranger have dominated the Vansdirect sales league in this class. VW have not even entered the race…..until now!
The new one-tonne class pickup will be unveiled in concept format at the IAA 2008 Hanover this week but is set to go into production at the end of 2009. It’s the first commercial vehicle to be designed under new VW supremo, Desgin Chief Walter de Silva but it obviously carries the trademarks of the VW commercial vehicle range - the “historical DNA” as labelled by VW.
According to the VW Press Release, the VW pickup will measure in at 5.18m long and 1.9m wide with a load area capable of taking a standard-sized Euro pallett sideways. That’s longer and wider than the Ford or Mitsubishi - only the Nissan compares on length but even this loses on width!

- Even the back looks like a Golf!!!
VW claim that their new pickup will use a new common rail turbo diesel engine - powerful enough to carry the loads but efficient enough to meet emission requirements. The German manufacturer also suggests, that with its four doors and four seats, the new pickup makes the ideal personal or business vehicle.
Vansdirect reckons this will be a big seller - but it remains to be seen whether the prices can compare against the great value of the Nissan and Mitsubishi competitors. A van of this type certainly needed to be added to the VW range - and the pictures certainly suggest all Golf drivers will love it!
